Memphremagog Rentals was established in 1981 and since that time, we, the owners/operators, Doug and Vivian Spates, have been acquiring rental properties throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. We are native Vermonters having grown up in Newport and Island Pond. We take pride in providing quality affordable housing in our several hundred units. Our primary emphasis at Memphremagog Rentals is in residential housing but we also own and rent a variety of desirable commercial locations.
Memphremagog Rentals is obviously too large an operation for two people to handle and over the years we have assembled what we consider to be a top-notch full time staff. We have a knowledgeable and pleasant office crew as well as a professional maintenance team. Our maintenance staff includes an oil/propane specialist, a plumbing specialist, several carpenters and a crew of painters who all work full-time keeping our units in tip top shape. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday but we have someone on call 24/7, 365 days of the year. Tenant comfort and satisfaction is our highest priority.
To answer the frequent question about the derivation of our business name, “Memphremagog” is an Indian word meaning “beautiful water” and it is the name of the lake which extends from Newport, VT some 25 or so miles across the Canadian border up to Magog, Quebec. Along with countless water related outdoor pursuits, Memphremagog provides us with a multitude of spelling and pronunciation calls for help, but certainly the lake itself is one of the most outstanding features of our area and several businesses and organizations have incorporated this word into their names.
